"Every lesson I've unlearned..."

Rating: 5/5

Breach by the Wallflowers is their most creative and best album to date. How can you not get shivers when you listen to Jakob Dylan's silky and husky voice. His lyrics are pure poetry, who said he's not as good as his famous pop? Standout tracks include: Letters from the Wasteland, Hand me Down, Sleepwalker, I've Been Delivered, Witness, Mourning Train, and Up From Under. If you want an intelligent and fun album then Breach is for you. The Wallflowers have never recorded a bad album so go ahead and pick this up today, you won't regret it. Happy listening!

This is where they're reaching the pinnacle

Rating: 4/5

I liked the Wallflowers from the beginning, but "Breach" is where you start to see the lyrics become personal. Jakob Dylan's reached down deep and come up with some winners. "Murder 101", and "Some Flowers Bloom Dead" are two favorites--right now. I cannot consistently say there's just one song on any Wallflowers CD. Their music is consistently good and interesting even when it's not the most recent.

A wonderful album, one of the best of the 1990's....

Rating: 5/5

I was sitting in a movie theater awaiting Darren Arononfsky's film Requiem for a Dream, and they were playing this over the audio system in the theater. I loved it, and I went out and bought it as soon as I could. It's a wonderful album, one of the Wallflowers's best albums. When I hear this band and its brilliant leader, Jakob Dylan, I never think of Bob Dylan. Jakob has his own incredible style and if you didn't know he was the son of Bob, you would never guess it. I didn't buy this album out of any sympathy for Jakob being Bob's son. He's earned his bread, so to speak (for the record, Bob has another son Jesse who is a filmmaker. His films are lousy). The opener, Letters from the Wasteland, is superb, with a great instrumental break at the end. Sleepwalker is one of my favorites, too, but there are 2 songs here that are instant classics. The song I've Been Delivered is probably the best song Jakob Dylan has written so far. The lyrics are poignant and quite moving, and the song builds to an incredible climax. The 2nd greatest track here is the hidden track after Birdcage. It's a gorgeous lullaby, and it actually reminds me of the song When An Angel Passes Through My Room, an ABBA song off their last studio album, The Visitors. It's so beguiling and moving. I usually don't like the music of the 1990's (I was never into "irony", grunge, and the general smug Gen X attitude that permeated that decade), but The Wallflowers always came across as a sincere band, a real band. They weren't labeled the leaders of grunge or any other dubious title by the press, but this album (and its predecessor) were some of the best albums of that decade.

Great Album

This is a super album to hang out with friends and listen over a drink.

My Favorite Wallflowers CD

Rating: 5/5

I like this one better than Bringing Down the Horse because it has some of my favorite songs on it. Jakob Dylan grows on each record and his lyrics keep getting better and better. Favorites include Letters from the Wasteland, Sleepwalker, I've Been Delivered, Some Flowers Bloom Dead, and Murder 101. This record sounds so good and is going to become a classic like BDTH. Highly Recommended.
