FPSRPG
Rating: 4/5
Deus Ex seamlessly combines two of the biggest genres in video gaming: first person shooters and role-playing games. While the graphics are certainly dated by today's standards, the game is not short on fun. The weapons are customizable, all of the nano-aug powers are upgradeable, and the skill system is easy to learn. This game is great for RPG fans and FPS fans alike, and even better for fans of both.
One of the best games ever
Rating: 4/5
I played the PC version of the game a while ago and it was one of the best games ever made. I got the PS2 version because I wanted to play it again but didn't have the CD anymore. The PS2 version has the same great plot and innovative gameplay. The only drawback is the levels are split into smaller zones, so there's more loading time. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars.
This one never gets old
Rating: 5/5
I could replay Deus Ex once a year because it is so cool, different, and has a nifty storyline. You can affect the way the game goes by making different decisions at crucial times. Plus, their is an educational component to the story. It does give lots of interesting facts in conspiracy-related areas. You can't lose!
FUN
Rating: 5/5
This is one of the greatest games of all time. The plot is incredible, keeping you on your toes throughout the gaming experience. The grapics are decent, especially for the age of this game and the system it was on. I loved the opportunity to make choices that determined my character's progression.
A little RPG and a little FPS = a lot of FUN
HUGE disappointment
Rating: 1/5
I like alot of other reviewers here got this game because everyone had the PC version and was ranting and raving about how great it was.
I'm not gunna dwell much on the graphics, because if you've read any of the other reviews you'll know it looks like an atari game. Not even to be mean, trying to figure out the "multiple" ways to solve a problem is pretty darn tough when everything in the game looked like a pixilated mess. Probably the one thing i couldnt get over the during the game was the sound effects. Another reviewer said he thought the sounds were a 10/10. He must have had the volume REAL low, cuz toy guns sound more convincing. I remember playing through the 1st level trying out the non gunfire weapons (knives, swords etc) and laughed out loud at the sound effects. THEN found out guns made the same noise! Regardless of any weapon you use the only sound effect you get is a Whapping sound that could be compared to snapping your belt. It made the game more humorous than anything else.
So we all know how bad it looks and sounds, how about how well it plays. I've never played the computer version, but the ps2 version is a clunky mess. Everytime you look around, a bright green box surrounds anything important. Sounds helpful, but when you are in the middle of a gun fight and the auto aim switches over to highlight a plant or something stupid its fairly frustrating. As other people mentioned, everytime you do anything such as switch a weapon or use an item you need to switch from menu to menu. This completely broke any level of enjoyment I rarely got out of this catastrophe of a game.
Dont let the price fool you, this game is an ugly mess. I even got it for less used a video game store, and couldnt even finish it because i couldnt take this mess seriously. Do yourself a favor and buy a better ps2 game.
